3 Talking points from India’s U19 Triumph

Mount Maunganui (New Zealand) witnessed a historic finale last Saturday as the future Indian team put up a commanding performance to lift the U-19 World Cup. The young sub-continental side was in full form both with the bat and ball which led to a comfortable 8-wicket victory over the Kangaroos. This win has made new records with India becoming the only country to win 4 U-19 world cup tournaments! (previously in 2000, 2008 & 2012).

Let’s look at 3 things to pay attention to from this epic victory-

1. Manjot Kalra, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw: The Emerging Star Batsmen

Kalra, Gill and Shaw
The way these 3 have batted throughout the series has made one point clear that the Indian team isn’t going to be short of batting power at least for another 10-12 years. The trio has scored 250+ runs in the tournament which clearly tells how good they already are. The opening pair of Prithvi and Kalra can take the place of Dhawan and Rohit in future. Shubman Gill has also displayed excellent temperament and composure. He played some blistering knocks throughout the World Cup and was declared the ‘Man of the Tournament’. We may see him as part of the senior team as a full-fledged middle order batsman in the future.
