Not many cricketers ooze confidence like our Universe Boss Chris Gayle, who is undoubtedly a special kind of cricketer. One of the best T20 cricketers to have ever played this game and the only individual to amass 10,000 runs, has transferred from Jamaica Tallawahs to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the 5th Caribbean Premier League. Gayle is a total destroyer, who has a fantastic record in Tests and ODIs but as stated by him it’s the T20 format that is tailor-made for him. He likes to put it as “I created T20 cricket”.
The Patriots have had a hard time in the recent past in CPL but Gayle feels that his inclusion to the squad as their new leader will be a big boost to the stumbling side and they will attract quite a few eyeballs because of him.
Some stats backing Chris Gayle’s claim:
- He is the leading run scorer in T20 cricket. Gayle became the first man to cross the 10,000 T20 runs mark during IPL 2017. The next on this list is Brendon McCullum with around 7987 runs.
- In addition to having the most runs, he also tops the charts for:
- centuries (18)
- half centuries (62)
- sixes (750)
- and the highest individual score in the format (175 not out).
Well, he’s not called the Universe Boss for no reason! Chris Gayle has all the numbers that matter for a batsman in T20 cricket stacked in his corner. And his playing style has always been aggressive, even before the days of T20 cricket. But going as far as calling himself the ‘inventor’ or ‘father’ of T20 cricket is a bit too far stretched. But of course, he said it in a lighter vein and that’s how it should be taken. Let’s just thank the Gods for letting us witness his mayhem.
