Pakistan were dealt a blow today when they received the news that their experienced fast bowler Wahab Riaz will miss the rest of the Champions Trophy with an ankle injury. The left armer injured himself during the defeat to India, and today the news that Pakistan didn’t want to have, was confirmed.
This has come at just the wrong time for Pakistan, who play a must win game against South Africa on Wednesday. They struggled against India when bowling on Sunday and with Riaz out of the line up, other bowlers will need to step up if there fortunes are going to change against South Africa.
Pakistan are under pressure going into their game on Wednesday and unless they improve this is looking like being a very disappointing tournament for them. The game on Sunday was built up to be a special game but the way Pakistan folded it was really disappointing for the neutrals, so I dread to think how their own fans took the defeat.
This news has come at the worst possible time for Pakistan and it is going to be really interesting to see how they respond to a tough start. They need to come out fighting and show they care, otherwise this is going to turn into a disaster of a tournament for them.
